‘Afternoon Tea Week’ falls on the 7th to the 13th of August this year and Barnsdale Gardens is celebrating with panache by offering an insight into what Geoff Hamilton, the ‘People’s Gardener’, used to like for his afternoon treats!
Geoff Hamilton (seen in the image below) was, of course, the founder of Barnsdale Gardens and earned the reputation of being the ‘People’s Gardener’ when he was the much loved presenter of BBC Gardeners’ World. This spirit lives on today at Barnsdale Gardens, which is now run by Geoff’s son Nick Hamilton.
The Barnsdale team have added the special ‘Geoff Hamilton Afternoon Tea’ to their menu at their Helenium Tea Room for a limited time only, as part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations. Available up until the 30th of September 2023, it costs £50.95 for two, is served between 3 pm and 4 pm and must be pre-booked at least 48 hours in advance.
As seen in the image above, the tea includes plenty of Geoff’s favourites such as:
– A selection of freshly made dainty sandwiches: ham & mustard; egg mayonnaise & cress; cheese, pickle and lettuce; beef & horseradish.
(Vegetarian option: cucumber & cream cheese; cheese, pickle and lettuce; Brie & cranberry; roasted vegetables & hummus)
– Savouries: pork pie; sausage roll; cheese straws.
(Vegetarian Savouries: vegetarian sausage roll; cheese straws and quiche)
– Treats: Mini sponge cake, lemon posset & shortbread, flowerpot choc-chip muffins; cheese scone.
– Served with: Pimm’s or gin & tonic and a hot drink of your choice.
