Battersea Power Station Roof Garden wins top award

Willerby Landscapes has secured the coveted Grand Award for their Battersea Power Station Roof Garden at the National Landscape Awards sponsored by Green-tech, marking its seventh Grand Award win and setting a record for the highest number of top prizes in the 47-year history of the Awards. The prestigious annual event, the largest of its kind in Europe, is open to members of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI), recognizing outstanding achievements in landscape design, construction, and maintenance.

The Grand Award, the pinnacle accolade, is bestowed upon the entry judged to be the best among the 69 National Awards presented earlier in the year. Kris Nellist, Managing Director of headline sponsor Green-tech, commended Willerby Landscapes and all award winners, emphasizing their exceptional work in the landscape industry.

The winning project, Battersea Power Station Roof Garden Phase 2, is integral to the regeneration of the iconic Battersea Power Station. As part of the full 43-acre Grade II* listed site transformation into a mixed-use development, including residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, Willerby Landscapes played a key role in creating gardens, courtyards, terraces, balconies, and walkways. The design, led by LDA Design and Andy Sturgeon Design, showcased the company’s commitment to excellence in every aspect, from planning and design to health and safety, logistics, craftsmanship, and horticultural expertise.

John Melmoe, Chair of the judging panel, praised the Battersea Power Station Phase 2 Roof Garden project, stating, “Every aspect of this impressive project… has been exemplary. When problems are seen as opportunities to excel and perfection is the collective goal, it is little wonder that the industry uses this contractor’s achievements as a benchmark. This year they have raised the bar once again.”

The National Landscape Awards, judged over the summer, recognized 69 National Landscape Awards in September, with 24 Principal, four Special, and the prestigious Grand Award announced at the Grosvenor House ceremony. Wayne Grills, Chief Executive of the British Association of Landscape Industries, highlighted the coveted nature of these awards, underscoring their significance as a representation of the best in the industry.
