Stunning Gardens in December

Discover the beauty of Barnsdale’s gardens at their winter best, each offering a visual feast for the senses:

  • Winter Border: Originally designed by Geoff Hamilton and revamped in 2016, the Winter Border is a spectacle leading up to Christmas and beyond. Adorned with a variety of snowdrops, winter aconite, Narcissus, Mahonia, Fatsia, and more, this garden is a sensory delight, enhanced by the intoxicating fragrance of Sarcococca.
  • Country Paradise Garden: Inspired by Geoff Hamilton’s Paradise Gardens series, this garden captivates even in colder months. Unusual snowdrops, Epimedium foliage, Cornus sanguinea ‘Annys Winter Orange’ stems, and fragrant Daphne odora ‘Rebecca’ flowers create a picturesque scene. Hellebores, Leucojum, and dwarf Narcissi add to the floral tapestry.
  • Memorial Garden: A tribute to Barnsdale’s creator, Geoff Hamilton, the Memorial Garden boasts a bronze bust, surrounded by masses of snowdrops and bi-colored daffodils. A locally crafted bench provides a serene spot to appreciate the beauty.
  • Rose Garden: Once an overgrown plot, the Rose Garden now showcases over fifty rose varieties. With evergreen black grass, Photinia leaves, Heuchera, and Bergenia, this garden offers year-round interest. Daffodils, muscari, snowdrops, and frosted perennials contribute to its charm.
