Check out these gardening jobs for February

Plan Your Kitchen Garden:
February marks the ideal time to plan and organize your kitchen garden or vegetable patch for the year. Visit your local British Garden Centres store for high-quality seeds and nutrient-rich compost to kickstart your gardening journey.

Soil Maintenance:
Prepare vegetable and flower beds by enhancing soil quality with manure and compost. Improve moisture retention in sandy soils and drainage in clay soils. Apply slow-release fertilizer, remove weeds, and water well for optimal planting conditions.

Start Chitting First-Early Potatoes:
Select high-quality seed potatoes from British Garden Centres and start chitting them by placing them in a bright, frost-free location with the ‘eyes’ facing upwards. After 4-6 weeks, the potatoes will sprout shoots and be ready for planting.

Undercover Sowing:
Begin undercover sowing of vegetable seeds such as kale, tomatoes, broad beans, peppers, aubergines, and cucumbers in propagators or greenhouses. Also, sow flowers like sweet peas, foxgloves, achillea, salvia, and dahlias on sunny windowsills.

Feed Existing Shrubs:
Care for flowering shrubs by trimming dead or overgrown branches, clearing debris, and applying slow-release fertilizer or well-rotted organic matter. Water the shrubs well after fertilizing and monitor for signs of stress or disease.

Maintenance:
Key maintenance tasks include trimming overgrown ivy, pruning winter-flowering shrubs, cutting back grasses left uncut over winter, pruning deciduous shrubs like Buddleia, and cleaning patios or paths.

Remember Wildlife:
Support birds through winter by stocking bird feeders and tables with a variety of nutritious options available at your local centre. From seeds and nuts to suet and mealworms, provide a reliable food source to help birds thrive in the spring.

Clean Your Patio or Path:
Give patios and paths a thorough cleaning by scrubbing and pressure washing to eliminate slippery dirt or moss accumulated during winter.

Embrace a fantastic February in your outdoor space with British Garden Centres, ensuring your garden is ready to bloom in the upcoming seasons.
