Woolmans Introduces Alstroemeria Plants Hardy to -20°C!
Known for its comprehensive offering of ornamental plants, Woolmans is delighted to announce five new varieties of Alstroemeria which it claims are hardy to -20°C.
Plants from the Majestic Series have been bred for garden performance and produce large flowers displayed on tall and strong stems from early to late summer.
“We are so impressed with this new range of Alstroemeria” comments Tom Stimpson of Woolmans. The company trialled a selection of plants last summer and were thrilled to discover some still flowering towards the end of November. “This series is known to be especially hardy – if planted in well-drained soil and mulched heavily over winter they will survive incredibly low temperatures, down to -20°C has been known”.
Bred for border planting and reaching up to 70cm in height, the strong stems never need supporting and they make wonderful flowers for cutting, lasting for weeks in the vase. The extra-large blooms are vibrantly coloured and beautifully speckled and mottled with intricate markings, which makes them very special additions to herbaceous borders and large pots for displaying on a sunny patio or terrace.
Woolmans is offering five varieties, Authion, Layon, Mazé, Montsoreau and Tiercé, all supplied in 9cm pots and priced at £7.95 each. A collection containing all 5 varieties is priced at £29.75, providing a saving of £10.
Plants will be despatched from mid-May 2018.
