Outdoor lighting that can make the most of your outdoor environment

Date:

With the majority of us staying at home, every bit of space is becoming increasingly important and with warmer and longer days approaching gardens become our extra room. Hudson Valley Lighting Group (HVLG) have a range of outdoor lighting that can make the most of your outdoor environment what from balconies to landscaped gardens.
Hudson Valley Lighting Group has been designing and manufacturing luxury lighting for more than thirty years. Renowned throughout North America for elegant design which spans a multitude of styles, the collections transform a space whether it has a contemporary, traditional, or industrial aesthetic.

Ben Marshall, Creative Director of Troy Lighting and Corbett Lighting, part of Hudson Valley Lighting Group talks to A1 Lighting about how to implement good lighting design outside.
Consider style
The first thing to consider when it comes to outdoor lighting is the exterior of your home. Is it Mid- century, Tuscan, Craftsman or Traditional? Selecting the proper fixtures to adorn your space is key to creating a welcoming atmosphere that makes sense and is also inviting.  Post exterior lights are a nice addition to a home that’s often overlooked. They add a grounding presence to the front of your home.
Size matters
Most exterior lights come in what we call “families”; different sizes of the same design. I recommend taking the basic measurements of the fixture you are considering on the surfaces as to which it will be installed. Proportions are key. Selecting lighting that is either too large or too small will make your space look awkward.

Take your time
As long as J-boxes are in place or you are replacing existing lights, most fixtures can be installed by yourself or with two people. Naturally take the right precautions, turning off the power being the main one. If you are adding new non-existing lights to your home then an electrician is key.
Where are You?
When looking for outdoor lighting it is important to look for finish materials that will hold up in the appropriate environment. Beach homes can be tricky as the salt in the air can destroy and weather cheap fixtures. Be sure to look for wet location labels. It is important especially with pendant fixtures that you are adding to an exterior living space. If the patio exposed to weather a damp location fixture won’t work.
