Magnificent Melons To Sow Now!

Imagine a perfect summer’s day relaxing in the garden with a bowl full of succulent, lush melon slices dripping with juice!  Ahhhhhhhh yes, who doesn’t love the taste of some of this marvellous fruit when it is hot outside…but you better believe it when the Burpee Europe team say, that the flavour is all the more sweeter when you have grown it yourself!

Our superb offerings below can all be sown April to May, so get your skates on and treat yourself to some seeds and get sowing! 
– Sow two seeds per 9cm pot
– When they have germinated, take away the weaker of the two seedlings
– Keep compost moist but not too wet
– Plant out in late spring to early summer in full sun in well-drained soil.

Melon ‘Honey Bun’

‘Honey Bun’ is a real bush cantaloupe that is well suited for the smaller garden.The little melons are 13 cm across with deep-orange flesh and honey-sweet flavour. Each vine will produce 3-4 fruits.

Melon ‘Budgie’
This is a startling development in Canary-type melons from Burpee. It is a tidy bush variety bearing 4-6 yellow skinned fruits. The sweet refreshing cream coloured flesh has a Brix value of around14-15%. Perfect for a summer appetizer or dessert. Excellent resistance to powdery and downy mildew.

Melon ‘Lottie’
A classic cantaloupe, ‘Lottie’ has a lightly netted skin and when cut reveals delicately perfumed, irresistibly sweet orange flesh with a Brix of around 15%.The bushy plants yield 4-5 fruits and are resistant to downy mildew.
