Leatherjackets -what’s the most effective treatment?

Leatherjackets are the larvae of the flies commonly known as daddy longlegs. They live in the soil. Daddy longlegs start to become apparent near the end of August. They lay their eggs within days of appearing. Once hatched it takes about two weeks for them to start feeding on grass roots and stem bases. They can devastate lawns and plants.

Leatherjackets can be killed by Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer. It is a safe and effective way to kill off a leatherjacket infestation. Leatherjackets can only be treated using biological methods.

So, what is Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer?

Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer is a natural product containing microscopic worms (nematodes) hunt down and kill leatherjackets. Nematodes attack the pest by entering natural body orifices where they release a bacteria which speedily and safely kills it. The nematodes then multiply inside the dead pest and release a new generation of hungry nematodes, which quickly spread out and go looking for future prey.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out your nematodes

·  Apply between August and the end of October

·  Mix the Nemasys with water (following the pack instruction) and apply straight away using a watering can or hose, to lawns that are already moist or damp. Use when the soil temperature is above ten degrees centigrade.

·  Straight after application, water the grass copiously so that the nematodes are washed into the soil where the leatherjackets live.

·  Keep the lawn well-watered for a minimum of two weeks after application.
