    Don’t be too eager to dig out dead looking deciduous shrubs after the long dry spell. Many trees and shrubs shed their leaves and went into their winter dormant mode in order to try to preserve water and survive. This spirea for instance had lost all of it’s leaves by the end of August and I was convinced it was a goner and earmarked it for removal in the winter. By the end of September, once e had had a few weeks with rainfall, the leaves started to re grow. It will now go on for a few weeks before it loses it’s new leaves for it’s proper winter shut down
