Colocasias can be grown from eddo tubers that can be bought from fruit and veg shops. Eddoes are a common food crop in Asia, being treated similar to a sweet potato.
To get the plant going wrap in a moist plastic bag and leave on a heat mat and when it shows signs of growth pot on to a proper plant pot and plant with the pointed end a couple of centimeters deep.
They must be kept warm and above 20c.
Colocasia leaves can reach enormous size and fully live up to their more common name of elephant ears!
Colocasia ‘blue hawaii’ has a fabulous veined leaf and grows to about 60cm tall. It loves full sun but is not hardy so it must be lifted and stored in frost free conditions in the winter. The leaves are poisonous if ingested
