Hafod Boeth a 254 hectare, Tilhill managed, woodland won Gold for ‘Best Managed Woodlands Over 200 hectares’ the judges praised the property and commented:

“There are few woodlands in Wales that offer so much by way of challenges and great opportunities. Situated at the very centre of the Snowdonia National Park, with plenty of exposure to public interest in how the woodlands are managed. Partially a PAWS site, superb public access, challenging ground conditions, many archaeological sites, constant fire risk, with the Ffestiniog railway running through it, and throw in the very welcome Osprey’s nest.”

The same property was silver stand class winners for class D (Conifer planting or restocking under 10 years old) and class G (Area managed using LISS) and received a special prize for the EFG Perpetual Challenge Cup awarded for the ‘Best Entry into Woodland Classes 1,2,3 & 4).

Brenig, a 151 hectare privately owned plantation managed by Tilhill, established in the 1970’s and well into its second rotation has good access off the main road, and a fine series of access tracks and a quality well managed plantation won the silver award for Best Managed Woodlands (51-200 hectares).

David Edwards, Tilhill’s Forestry Director said: “We are very pleased with the success in this year’s awards. It’s great news for Simon Miller and the Tilhill teams who work so hard at sites across Wales and also for our clients as the awards give third party endorsement of the services they are receiving.

“Congratulations to all involved.”
