BEANS, BLOOMS AND BEES

HOW GROWING YOUR OWN CAN SAVE THE BEES

By Madeleines, a grow your own veg subscription service, and Windsor based Oakdale Bees, an inspiring apiary and creator of all natural eco hive gifts, have formed a new partnership as part of a multi-layered initiative to save the bees!

The joint venture aims to increase the awareness of the importance of bees to communities and how growing your own veg can support their habitat.

Oakdale Bees Owner and Founder Elisabeth Barton-Grew said “Over the last few years we have seen a worrying decline in the bee population, which we want to help rectify. Bees have always been a passion of mine. We set up our first hive six years ago and since then have created a range of products including beeswax food wraps and artisan polishes using 100% pure ingredients. During the season we host Bee Experience Days for people who might aspire to keep bees or simply want to learn more about helping to save bees and other pollinators.

Bees are so vital to our existence, we hope our collaboration will help drive change, increase bee populations and help reset the downward trend that we have experienced.

We are very much looking forward to working with the By Madeleines team to help inspire others to plant more seeds and create sustainable environments to save the bees.”

The new boxes combine the By Madeleines grow your own subscription based service and one-off growing boxes, Oakdale Bees products and Bee Experience Days.

Included within the boxes are vegetable and flower seeds, compost, pots and instructions. A selection of beeswax products, such as beeswax wraps, candles, polishes, honey and Bee Experience Days are also available to purchase. Oakdale Bees products are handmade in Windsor from ethically sourced local ingredients and presented in 100% plastic free, recyclable packaging.

This is a project that is very close to my heart” said By Madeleines Founder, Madeleine Pearce. “Having been a keen gardener for many years, I have always had a vested interest in supporting bees and the ecosystem around me. Here at By Madeleines we have developed a series of grow your own boxes that include bee-loving plants that are suitable for people with little or no gardens, to those with larger spaces.

Oakdale Bees has a fantastic set up and their products are a testament to the quality and care that Elisabeth and her team put into their bees. Through our combined efforts and knowledge, we hope to help create many new ecosystems for bees to thrive in, whilst having a go at growing your own”.

The first step in the partnership is the release of Winter and Christmas boxes. These can be purchased here BY MADELEINES and OAKDALE BEE
