Autumn at Barnsdale Gardens

The Barnsdale Gardens team are proud of the fact that their gardens and tea room are open all year round. In fact, the different seasons actually enhance the radiant qualities of the 38 individually designed gardens.

Barnsdale not only offers the chance of a superb day out wandering through a wonderland of horticultural joy but also a wide selection of special events and interesting courses.

GARDENS
Winter Border
Although the focus is on winter, this border has a bounty of other interests all year round, including: Sorbus foliage and fruits; Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’; Prunus subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosea’ (flowers and foliage); Rudbeckia and Galanthus reginae-olgae (autumn flowering snowdrop)

A Cottage Garden
The cottage garden does not only look good in the summer! In autumn these varieties are the stars: Malus ‘Evereste’; Asters; Rosa ‘Noisette Carnee’; Hesperantha coccinea ‘Major’ and Acer palmatum ‘Nigrum’

Woodland
In the stunning woodland area there is a bevvy of beauties to behold including; Cyclamen hederifolium; Colchicum autumnale; Acer pamatum varieties; general autumn leaf colour from a variety of trees and a variety of ferns.

Lots of other autumnal seasonal stunners such as blooms, foliage, berries and other fruits, can be seen adorned everywhere, as well as in borders around and between the gardens.

COURSES
‘Willow Animal Workshop’: 11th October
Grab your secateurs and join country craftsman Martin Keeley to learn all about willow and create something beautiful to take home.

‘Planting Design Workshop: 22nd October’
The internationally renowned garden designer David Stevens will take you through all the basics of planting and designing your own garden. Looking at specific plants, showing how they work best in a garden, planting techniques and preparing a planting plan.
