Are dahlia bulbs hardy

Date:

Dahlia bulbs are, in general, not hardy. Some dahlias in a sheltered position might survive the winter but they will need a good covering of mulch to have a chance. It’s best to lift dahlias as they are tubers and not a bulb. Bizarrely, don’t lift them until after the first frosts as they go on growing right up until the temperature goes below zero.
