Kilted Lobster the social conscience restaurant in Edinburgh has won the 2018 Small Business Big Heart Award in association with The restaurant won against stiff competition from nine other regional finalists from all over the UK.

Kilted Lobster was chosen because all profits fund projects for those in need around Edinburgh including free meals for those facing financial hardship, vocational training for those overcoming barriers to work and education, and cookery classes for families on limited budgets or catering for special dietary needs.

The restaurant will receive £1,000 to put towards a good cause of its choice.

Owner and Head Chef Colin says, “Cooking Up a Storm is the Social Conscience of our restaurant. We truly believe in influencing and supporting our community, our city and our country through simple and practical projects. Much like following a recipe we believe in a step-by-step approach to do what we can to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Rufus Bazley, Marketing Director at says, “We were very impressed with the social and charitable efforts of Cooking Up a Storm. It’s evident that the entire team are committed to creating a positive impact in their area through some incredible idealistic practises and a genuine desire to help those in need.”

In addition the judges awarded four Highly Commended prizes to the following small businesses…

Highly Commended Small Business Big Heart Community Spirit Awards went to The Picturedrome Electric Theatre, Bognor Regis for its incredible support for local community events, organisations and sports clubs and Sardaya Hair and Beauty, Swindon for its local fundraising activities and practical support for the elderly, homeless, children and babies in the community.

Highly Commended Small Business Big Heart On-going Giving Award went to Pearl’s Pet Care, Forres for its 36-year long work in animal welfare, environmental safeguarding, community care and regional business development

Highly Commended Small Business Big Heart Business Heart Award went to Bluefin Living, Birmingham for a business ethos built on tackling the UK’s housing crisis.
