Established in 2014, HFC Hire Services provide plant and onsite accommodation hire in Exeter, Devon, Somerset and the South West. When looking to expand their hire offering, Proprietor Col Bachmann explored the Arb market and settled on GreenMech to supply a range of woodchippers. Such is the success of the relationship with GreenMech, and the demand for the product, that Col has founded a partner company to HFC, Chipper Hire South West.
“We were getting asked by contractors for a woodchipper which would enable them to clear the site before proceeding with building work, so for the last 2 years I’ve had dealings with chippers on and off. It was logical to invest in our own machinery to help us become a one-stop shop” explained Col. He spoke to 5 manufacturers during the decision-making process and it was GreenMech that ticked all the boxes. “The product looks good, they’re well designed and importantly they’re well priced. The main selling point was the level of service and expertise I received from GreenMech – it far exceeded anything I found with the other companies. Although I had a little knowledge I needed a lot of help and advice when it came to buying my own kit and when I spoke to Julian Cullis at GreenMech it was clear he knew all of the products inside out!”
The latest addition to Col’s fleet of chippers is an ArbTrak 150, which he took delivery of in August. “I’m really pleased with how it’s all going – we’re getting really positive feedback on the machine from users.” The ArbTrak unit is popular with Arborists and Tree Surgeons and with demand taking off, Chipper Hire South West will be looking to increase their chipper fleet to 8 units within the next year.
The ArbTrak 150 has been designed to get to those hard to reach locations with the tracked chassis providing high ground clearance of 274mm. This allows easy access to sites over rough terrain and the 3kph tracking speed means the operator can get the job done quickly. It’s 970 x 790mm in-feed chute allows for bushy brash reduction while then 150mm x 230mm letterbox-style infeed throat makes light work of heavily forked branches. As standard, the ArbTrak 150 comes fitted with GreenMech’s patented disc-blade system which gives up to 150 hours of chipping before requiring re-sharpening.
