First meeting of the lawnmower racing season

Yes, it’s ready, steady, mow! The lawnmower racing season has finally got under way after a bit of last minute negotiating to move the event to the Old reservoir farm at Billinghurst due to a waterlogged Capel venue.

A sweltering weekend saw some fast and furious action with the riders reaching speeds close to 40km/h on a relatively short and bumpy track.

The event was held over the three day bank holiday weekend with set up and barbeque on the Saturday followed by two days of very competitive racing.

The course is pretty much made up on the day and adjusted after practice to iron out any dangerous or problem corners. The track was 0.39km long and took around 40 seconds to lap, meaning that the spectators didn’t have to wait too long for the racers to come around!

The results for the championship races were as follows;

Dan Jones won two of the three group 4 championship races with Gary Botting taking the third.

Dean Fuller and Sean Tanswell won two each in the group 3 championship races

Steve Kingston took three of the wins in the group 2 championship races with Michael Cresswell taking the fourth

Gary Botting set the fastest lap time of the weekend with a blistering 35.58s reaching a top speed of 39.56km/h riding a group 4 machine.
